   Proposal Description:
   The objective of the proposed project is to test the existing paradigm that Alzheimer pathology (AP) is detrimental. The prevailing view that AP *causes* detrimental effects rests on simple clinico-pathological *correlation* (CPC). I wish to test how far CPC can support the prevailing view.  To achieve the objective, I will undertake statistical analyses that (1) examine CPC after adjusting AP and  a putative outcome for confounding demographic factors (2) compare the prevailing view with alternatives - that AP may be incidental or protective.  If the proposed analyses militate against the prevailing view that AP is detrimental, then this will have an important impact on the entire field of dementia research.
